Looking for a cute and simple Fall craft for your toddler? Then you’re in the right place! In this post I’ll share with you a super simple guide to painting pumpkins with your little one this Halloween.
Pumpkin Painting Guide
I’m always looking for fun new ways to engage my toddler that doesn’t involve much set up (or clean up). And who doesn’t like getting festive for Spooky Season?! Pumpkin painting is a super simple Halloween craft to do with your toddler without having to deal with the pumpkin seed mess! Not only will your little one have a blast, they will be working on their fine motor skills, sensory development, and color recognition. A real win-win. Okay, let’s get into it!
- Materials Needed
- Prepare the pumpkin painting area
- Set out the pumpkin painting supplies
- Get to painting!
Materials Needed
- 1 Small pumpkin
- 1 Box of Washable Project Paint
- 1 Pack of Paint Brushes
- 1 Plate (for holding the paint)
- 1 Roll of Craft Paper (optional)
- 1 Full Arm Bib (optional)
Prepare the Pumpkin Painting Area
Since this craft does involve paint, I highly recommend taking a little time to prepare the pumpkin painting area. The paint is washable, but still, who wants to do more laundry than they have to? I like to line the table that I’m using with craft paper. Not only does the paper help to keep your table clean, it’s also another area for your toddler to express their creativity (without making a mess on your table). I also put a full arm bib on my toddler for this craft, but if your little one is neat feel free to skip that step or just use an apron.
Set out the Pumpkin Painting Supplies
Once the area is prepared, it’s time to set out the painting supplies. Pour a small amount of each color paint on a plate for your toddler to use. Set out the paint brushes and have a rag or paper towels ready for drying the brushes (or for any unexpected spills).
Get to Painting!
You’re now ready for some pumpkin painting fun! I highly recommend putting on a fun Halloween playlist in the background while your little one gets crafty. Painting is such a fun way to let your toddler express their creativity and work on their fine motor skills, all while having fun! As a type A mom, messy crafts typically aren’t my jam. But this pumpkin painting craft is so easy to clean up that it doesn’t even phase me.
Have fun!
We had so much fun with this super easy pumpkin painting craft and I hope you’re inspired to paint your own now too! My son absolutely loved decorating his pumpkin and is so proud of the final product (adorable). I have a feeling that we’ll be doing this craft a few more times before Halloween.
Let me know in the comments if you tried this craft or if you have any others that we should try!
