This Halloween was very different from previous years. Rather than finding the best party to attend, we focused on creating cute and simple Halloween costumes for our family of three. My husband is a BIG fan of costumes (for any occasion), and I enjoy the challenge of a good DIY opportunity.
We needed two costumes this year, one for family trick-or-treating and another for a party with friends.
Pumpkin and Farmers
It’s tradition in my family to dress up as a pumpkin for your first Halloween, so the first costume was a no-brainer. We found a super cute pumpkin costume for Noah on amazon (it came with a ridiculous hat that he refused to keep but it turned out super cute). We dressed him in layers and added a little checkered sock for some flair.
My husband and I went as farmers (real original I know). All we had to do was throw together a jean on jean outfit, add a belt and bandana, then top it off with hats. I wore a flat brim hat that I already had, and my husband bought a little toy cowboy hat from amazon. Boom! First costume complete.
Family Shark Attack
Our Next costume was a bit more cheeky. Noah was 4 months old at the time – Nursing around the clock and had just sprouted 2 razor blades for teeth (not fun for mama). With that, I thought it would be fitting to go with the family shark attack theme. Noah was the adorable baby shark, I was the “wounded” victim, and my husband was the hunky lifeguard.
To create this DIY costume, I put on a white fitted shirt and dabbed a bit of food coloring for the “bites” on the two spots my “baby shark” usually attacks (if you know what I mean). My husband thrifted a lifeguard jacket and layered some sunscreen on his nose for authenticity. And for the star of the show, our baby shark. There are so many adorable baby shark costumes online, I went for the most comfortable option that I could find knowing that he was going to fall asleep soon after getting into costume.
Happy Halloween!
This Halloween was so much cuter than previous years with our little 4 month old in tow. We had a blast putting together our DIY family Halloween costumes. I hope that you are now inspired to create your own family Halloween costumes too!
Let me know in the comments if you tried these costumes or have ideas for others we can try!
