Aloha! We threw a tropical co-ed baby shower, and it did not disappoint. My husband and I are always looking for an excuse to party, and our baby shower was no exception! Thanks to many helping hands, we created a little tropical oasis to host a lively baby shower with all of our friends and family. Now let’s dive into how to throw a tropical co-ed baby shower!
Baby showers can be a bit of a snooze fest – guess the number of candies in the jar, eat tiny sandwiches, and watch the mom-to-be open a zillion presents. As much as I love traditions, I wanted to spice up our baby shower to make sure that everyone has fun!

Simple DIY Tropical Decorations
To throw a tropical co-ed baby shower, the first thing that you’ll need to do is set the scene. A simple (and cost effective) way to dial up the tropical vibes is to load up on pineapples. There are so many ways to use pineapples as DIY decorations. For this party, we created DIY pineapple vases. To do this we cut the crown (top part with the leaves) off the pineapple, scooped out the center, and voilà, you have yourself a vase! We filled each pineapple vase with tropical flowers that we found at Trader Joe’s, and used the crowns to decorate the appetizer table.
No party is complete without balloons. Am I right?! We created a simple balloon arch and placed it over an Aloha Baby sign that we found online. We used this as another little photo op spot in the house for our guests.
Tropical Appetizers that Look Fancy, but Aren’t
We wanted to bring our guests some tropical bites but didn’t want to spend hours prepping – enter Costco. We got some poke, macaroni salad and tons of fresh fruit. As a nice little touch, we served up the poke and mac salad in individual cups with spoons. This made it easy for our guests to grab and go, it also ended up looking really nice (if I do say so myself). To play on the tropical theme, we even made little skewers with some of the fruit. We used all of the cutting boards and cake trays that we own to create dimension and spread the fruit across the entire counter. The final touch was the bamboo plates and cutlery, just really gives that tropical feel.
We’re not big dessert people, so we kept the sweets table pretty simple. Our family friend made some adorable tropical baby shower cookies, and we made super easy DIY donut pineapples. To do this, we got some Krispy Kreme donuts (yumm), and put pineapple cupcake toppers through them.
Baby Shower Games that Don’t Suck
After we created the tropical oasis for our baby shower, we needed to bring in the “co-ed friendly” games that would get all guests on their feet. These are the three main games that we played, and they were a total hit!
Baby Bottle Chug
This is exactly what it sounds like, a baby bottle chugging competition. Fill baby bottles with your drink of choice, and the first person to finish their bottle wins! We bought these baby bottles on amazon, they are cute and inexpensive. I do recommend doing a test run with the bottles that you choose. The bottles that we bought were difficult to “chug” from, so we snipped the tip of the bottles a bit to let the liquid flow easier.
Diaper Pong
This is a spin off of the classic college game we all know and love, beer pong. Diaper Pong requires a bit of prep but it’s totally worth it. To assemble this game, you’ll need: a display board, tropical leaf cutouts (to bring in the tropical feel), ping pong balls, gorilla glue, and diapers (you’re going to need plenty of these around the house soon anyways). Open 6 diapers and fasten them in the open position. Leave enough room in the diapers so it’s relatively easy to shoot a ping pong ball in it. Glue them to the board in a pyramid (3,2,1) formation, and you’re ready to start playing! The person to make the most ping pong balls in the diapers wins. We allowed bouncing and trick shots, but you can decide your own “house rules”.
Guess the Belly Size
This is a classic baby shower game, and by far the easiest to prepare. All you’ll need is some twine and scissors. Start by wrapping twine around the mama-to-be to get the “guide twine”. Each guest will then cut a piece of twine to match this length. The guest with the twine that most closely matches the guide twine wins!
Have Fun!
We had the best time throwing a tropical co-ed baby shower for our baby boy on the way. It was tropical, lively, and filled with all of our favorite people. I’m already excited to throw our next party and I hope that you’re inspired to plan your topical co-ed baby shower too.
